Catching Rays and Human Computer Interaction: Design Showcase

At the end of the term, the society held its end-of-term design showcase, which gave our society members the chance to present the design projects they have worked hard on all term and receive feedback from our design mentors. Our design teams presented two projects based on the prompts “Catching Rays” and “Human Computer Interaction”.

Our “Catching Rays” team reframed the concept of spatial lighting by exploring insulation in existing forms of light manipulation. The team investigated how excessive solar radiation, poor insulation, and inadequate ventilation can lead to overheating of houses in the summer, then presented design concepts that can dynamically adjust based on the amount of sunlight throughout the day and year, thereby preventing solar radiation from overheating the houses.

Our “Human Computer Interaction” team shared the progress of their ongoing design competition project. By identifying a pressing issue and analyzing possible design directions, the team has developed preliminary design concepts and 3D renderings. The team aims to submit their design to the 28th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction happening in Montreal next year.

With invaluable insight from mentor David Knight, our designers found themselves truly thinking about next steps and are more inspired than ever to take their designs to the next level. A massive thank you to David for pushing our teams further and to our amazing designers for their hard work on these projects.

We look forward to seeing you again next term!
